Manager of Programs and Training

NAMI Indiana is the state chapter for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We support 16 affiliates in Indiana. We do this by providing statewide training and technical assistance for NAMI programs in those local communities. NAMI Indiana works with our volunteers from around the state to grow NAMI programs. NAMI programs include support groups, education classes, presentations, and more. 

This position will be tasked with carrying out the trainings and working with the affiliates to grow capacity and availability of our programs. 


Responsibilities and Essential Duties: 

State Training and Program Coordination 

  • Oversee the delivery of statewide training programs to increase availability of NAMI programs in Indiana
  • Manage logistics for statewide training events, such as securing location, reserving hotel rooms, preparing training materials, and providing clear and consistent communication with participants
  • Manage program budgets and resources efficiently to ensure effective program delivery and grant compliance
  • Collaborate with local NAMI affiliates to identify training needs 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of NAMI national program developments

Support Affiliates with NAMI Programs 

  • Collect and evaluate program and training outcomes through data analysis and feedback to ensure continuous improvement, grant compliance, and program fidelity
  • Assist and mentor volunteer leaders from our affiliates with problem-solving and program management 
  • Coordinate and assist with all NAMI program leader trainings and train-the-trainer, including informing leaders of updates and changes to the programs
  • Advertise all programs on the state and national website and on organization’s social media
  • Provide needed materials for each class, support group, and presentation when applicable 

Direct Program Delivery 

  • Develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and seminars to the general public, partner organizations, and businesses about mental health and NAMI 
  • Support the local NAMI affiliate in program delivery 
  • Independently educates self on current community supports and latest program and scientific information that is valuable to NAMI and non-NAMI trainings and presentations 

Helpline

  • Provides backup HelpLine telephone support (serving individuals looking to the HelpLine for information on mental illness, treatment options, recovery strategies, NAMI program and support group information as well as the opportunity to speak with someone that understands and cares). Training is provided to all HelpLine staff
  • Records data on HelpLine calls in tracking spreadsheet
  • Assists HelpLine Manager with HelpLine training of new staff/volunteers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Proven experience in program management with minimum of 3 years professional experience
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to handle difficult situations effectively and possesses values aligned with the NAMI mission
  • Respectful of people affected by mental health conditions
  • Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insight for program improvement
  • Basic knowledge of and interest in mental illnesses, treatments, recovery, mental health care systems and able to keep abreast of developments and trends in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness
  • Has valid driver’s licenses, access to reliable transportation, and is willing/able to travel around state regularly

Preferences

  • Familiarity with NAMI mission and programs
  • Participation in one or more NAMI programs
  • Familiar with Indiana’s mental health system
  • Already trained or willing and eligible to be trained in the following:
    • NAMI Family Support Group Facilitator and Facilitator Trainer
    • NAMI Connection Facilitator and Facilitator Trainer
    • NAMI Peer to Peer Teacher and Teacher Trainer
    • NAMI In Our Own Voice Presenter and Presenter Trainer
